July 20, 2010: I posed the question to a captive audience "How much time do we spend on ourselves?" The answers, of course, varied from 2% to 40% (the most common) to 75%. No one said a 100%.
This question led to my ultimate question: "Will we have privacy in heaven?" After our dialectic, I realized life is not about privacy or selfishness; it is about intimacy. As humans, it is in our nature to crave intimacy. Job said it best (29:4) "Oh, for the days when I was in my prime, when God's intimate friendship blessed my house...."
When we care for others, when we allow them a place in our home, when we spend our lives giving instead of getting, when we allow ourselves to be used (but not abused), we are sharing intimacy.
